PM Cup from May 15th
National Sports Council (NSC) is set to organize the third Prime Minister (PM) Cup one-day men’s cricket tournament from May 15. The event is being managed by Nepalaya International.
The tournament, which runs till May 24, will be played at the Tribhuvan University (TU) Cricket Ground in Kirtipur, the NSC informed at a press meet organized in Kathmandu on Sunday.
A total of 10 teams—three departmental teams: Tribhuvan Army Club, Armed Police Force (APF) Club, and Nepal Police Club; and seven provincial clubs—will take part in the tournament which will feature a match each day.
The 10 teams will be divided into two groups. The top two teams of each group will enter the semifinals of the tournament that will be played league-cum-knockout format.
The organizers informed that the total budget of the tournament will be Rs 17.5 million. The NSC announced that it will provide Rs 8 million for the tournament, while the remaining sum will be given by Nepalaya.
The council announced that around Rs 5 million will be spent on prizes for the tournament. The winner will take home a cash prize of Rs 2 million, while the runner-up will be rewarded with Rs 1 million.
Likewise, the best player of the tournament will get a motorcycle, while the best batsman and the best bowler will get Rs 50,000 each.
Also, the organizers added that a spectator who takes a single handed catch will get a cash prize of Rs 50,000 each.
At the press meet, Nepalaya and NSC signed agreement for organizing the event. Member secretary of the council Keshav Kumar Bista and Nepalaya’s Subas Chandra Pradhan signed on the agreement paper on behalf of their organizations.
Bista said the tournament will contribute toward development of Nepali cricket.
Pradhan said the tournament will encourage the players and give momentum to the sport as there has been very few 50-over tournaments despite the country's getting an ODI status. He added that the Nepalaya was supporting the tournament with an objective to help Nepal get a Test status.
